Local Information for
Cooper Mountain, Colorado
It was once known as the “wildest spot in the county.” That was during its mining heyday, when the town was known as Wheeler, named after early settler Judge John S. Wheeler. More than a century later, Copper Mountain still maintains the lively atmosphere of the early days, but it is now a world-renowned destination resort.
With its naturally divided ski terrain making it what some call “the perfect ski mountain,” Copper Mountain has gained fame in the ski world. But the resort community is much more than skiing. The ongoing Renaissance of Copper Mountain will infuse $500 million into Copper in the next few years, adding lodging, restaurants, shops and amenities to the already wide selection of thriving businesses that round out the Copper experience.
Copper has always had an amazing mountain resort and now planners are building a base village that will live up to the mountain. In addition to providing more terrain than any other ski resort in the county,
Copper offers a host of other winter activities including ice-skating, cross-country skiing, tubing, snow biking and horse-drawn sleigh ride dinner tours. In the summertime, Copper Mountain thrives with fishing, hiking and biking trails, horseback rides, chairlift rides and golfing.
The Copper Creek Golf Club is the highest championship golf course in North America. A variety of dining and shopping experiences are available at Copper Mountain, as well as an athletic club and conference facilities.
